David Thornton will be sworn in as Floyd County’s newest commissioner.

Thornton defeated Chip Hood in the runoff for the Post 4 seat vacated by the death of Larry Maxey in November.

Thornton received 2,892 votes to Hood’s 1,713 votes.

Voter turnout for the runoff was just over 7 percent.
