R.O.M.E. presents Across the Pond this Saturday

Thursday, April 10, 2025–11:10 a.m.

-Staff reports-

It’s time to take a trip across the big pond this weekend, as the Northwest Georgia Winds presents the 25th annual Across the Pond Celtic gala this Saturday.

The free concert gets underway at 4 p.m. at the Rome City Auditorium and will feature the music of Ireland and Scotland, primarily.

“We will have the John Mohr McIntosh Pipes and Drums up from Atlanta,” said Sam Baltzer with the Northwest Georgia Winds. “They’ve been our annual guests for 23 of our 25 years. We are expecting about 12 pipers and maybe five regimental drummers coming up with that group, but we will also have on our stage an Irish uilleann pipes player who will be playing traditional music on the Irish bagpipes, which is a very different instrument.”

Baltzer added there will be a variety of other entertainers.

“We’ve got Irish dancers—the Irish traditional group,” he said “We have a group of men’s singers from Adairsville High School, plus two vocal soloists, my wife Janet and Chase Johnston. Plus, of course, we also have the Northwest Georgia Winds, our 60-piece community adult band based here in Rome.”

Once again, the concert is free.
