On Thursday afternoon, Floyd 911 dispatch received a report of a vehicle-versus-pedestrian accident on Highway 53 in the area near Dempsey Road.
Floyd County Police and other first responders arrived on the scene, where the incident blocked inbound lanes of traffic into Rome.
The accident detoured traffic onto West Hermitage and back onto Calhoun Road.
According to preliminary information from Floyd County Police Public Affairs Officer, Mike Bell, two pedestrians were walking along the side of Highway 53 when the accident occurred.
It remains unclear whether both pedestrians were injured or just one, and the extent of any injuries is not yet known.
