Warming shelters reopening as bitter cold moves in

Warming shelters will be in operation for Rome and Floyd County in anticipation of the severe cold weather being forecast this week (begins Sunday 01/19/25).

Anthony Recreation Facility at the Wilson Activity Center, 2901 Garden Lakes Blvd (24-hr facility: open Sunday at 8 pm)

The Salvation Army, 317 East First Ave / 706-291-4745

United Way main office (daytime only), 1304 North Broad Street / Call 211

Cave Spring Community Center, 10 Georgia Avenue (24-hr facility: open Sunday at 8 pm.

An Extreme Cold Watch is in effect from late Sunday night through Monday morning.

Dangerously cold wind chills that will likely be at or slightly below 0 by sunrise on Monday in portions of north-central, northeast, and northwest Georgia.

An extended period of freezing temperatures could cause ruptured water pipes.

Animals that are not acclimated to temperatures this low should be brought indoors or into shelter.

Dress in layers including a hat, face mask, and gloves if you must go outside.

To prevent water pipes from freezing; wrap or drain or allow them to drip slowly.
