Warrant: Man accused of taking a vehicle to get washed, never returned it

An Armuchee man was arrested Tuesday on a felony warrant charging him with theft by deception.

According to the warrant:

54-year-old James Steven Rehberg took possession of the victim’s vehicle by saying he was going to get it washed.

Rehberg never returned with the vehicle, which was valued at $20,000.

The incident occurred in October of last year.

Woman accused of trying to smuggle contraband into prison

A third arrest has been made in a scheme to smuggle smokeless tobacco, a vape, electrical tape, and plastic baggies into the Floyd County Prison.

According to an arrest warrant and Floyd County Jail records:

40-year-old Bonnie Jo Upton of Cave Spring agreed to deliver the contraband to a designated location on Floyd County.

The deal was arranged with inmates–55-year-old James Herbert Emory of Skipperville, Alabama, and 41-year-old Timothy David Partnode of Cave Spring–over the prison’s phone system.

An investigator located and recovered the items before they could be smuggled into the prison.

Upton is charged with conspiracy to commit a felony, possession of items prohibited for inmates, and use of a communications facility to commit a drug crime.

Man charged with battery, false imprisonment

A Cave Spring man is facing felony and misdemeanor charges following an argument at his Parks Street home early Wednesday.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

41-year-old Preston Michael Rogers, while intoxicated, poured a beverage on a woman while she was asleep in her bed.

He also slapped the victim.

Three children were in the residence and could hear what was going on.

After the argument, the victim attempted to get into her car and leave, but Rogers grabbed her pullover and held her against the driver’s seat of the vehicle, preventing her from leaving.

Police arrived to find Rogers hiding in the back floor of his vehicle with clothing and other items covering him.

Rogers is charged with simple battery, simple assault, false imprisonment, and 3rd-degree cruelty to children.

Report: Teen caught smoking THC vape at Rome High

A teen was arrested Tuesday after he was allegedly caught smoking a THC vape in a restroom at Rome High School.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

18-year-old Lazaro Mauricio-Morales of Rome is charged with a felony count of possession of low THC oil.

Woman charged with shoplifting, drug possession

A homeless woman initially arrested for shoplifting is also facing charges of possession of a Schedule II controlled substance and possession of drug-related objects.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

35-year-old Katherine Ann Pedro-Torres concealed merchandise in a bag and walked out of the West Rome Walmart without paying.

She was then found with a white substance in a baggie and a glass pipe.
