Report: Man assaulted woman, cursed at 911 operator

A 41-year-old Rome man is facing an aggravated assault charge following his arrest early Wednesday at his Acadia Drive home.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

Michael Gregory Smith put his hands around a woman’s throat, strangling her.

He also held the victim down on a bed, not allowing her to leave the room.

Smith slammed the woman into the walls and took her phone away twice as she was calling 911.

He then cursed at the 911 operator.

The incidents were witnessed by two children.

Smith is also charged with false imprisonment, 3rd-degree cruelty to children, battery, interference with a 911 call, abuse of a 911 operator, and disorderly conduct.

Search warrant leads to drug arrest

A Rome man was arrested Tuesday following the execution of a search warrant at his home on West Forrest Street.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

33-year old Tevin Marquel Fain was found with over an ounce of marijuana packaged for resale, Xanax in unmarked pill bottles, and digital scales.

Fain, who is a convicted felon, also had a shotgun.

He is charged with felony possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute, possession of a Schedule IV controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance with the intent to distribute, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and possession of drugs not in the original container.
