Currently, in the State of Georgia, you can choose burial, cremation, or aquamation when for you or a loved one when they die, but now another option may soon be available.

Senate Bill 241, which legalizes and regulates organic human reduction, is headed to Governor Brian Kemp’s desk for his signature.

Also known as human composting, the process involves the accelerated conversion of the body into soil using microbes.

It is considered a more environmentally friendly option as opposed to burial or cremation.

The bill passed the State House by a vote of 157-4.

State Representatives Katie Dempsey of Rome and Eddie Lumsden of Armuchee voted “yes.” Rep. Trey Kelley is Cedartown was a “no” vote.

It passed in the State Senate by a vote of 52-1 with Senator Churck Hufstetler voting in favor.
