The National Weather Service in Peachtree City has issued an updated briefing on the severe weather threat for Saturday through Sunday, March 15-16, 2025.
A significant severe weather outbreak is expected across much of Alabama and Northwest GA, with the potential for strong, long-track tornadoes.
“This is not your run-of-the-mill weather event,” said David Nadler of the National Weather Service. Floyd County and much of Northwest Georgia face a high tornado risk. Storms could continue into Sunday afternoon, with up to 3 inches of rain expected.”
Floyd County Emergency Management has stated that the first round is expected to arrive late Friday with heavy rain, 40-60 mph winds, and hail.
A more intense second round is expected between 7 p.m. Saturday and 1 a.m. Sunday, bringing 60-80 mph winds, long-track tornadoes, hail, and flash flooding.
Residents are urged to stay weather-aware, review their emergency plans, and have multiple ways to receive warnings.
