Man charged with conversion of payments for property improvements

A 31-year old Rome man accused of taking money for home improvements but never completing the work was jailed on Wednesday.

According to the arrest warrants, Kevin Clark Buchanan of a Burnett Ferry Road address accepted a down payment of $1,000 to do the work at an apartment complex on Riverside Parkway on January 28.

The warrant states that Buchanan had to intention of starting or completing the job and he was charged with felony conversion of payments for real property improvements.

He is also charged with a misdemeanor count of simple assault in connection with an incident on Smith Road Wednesday.

According to the arrest report, Buchanan pointed a toy gun, which looked like a real gun, at a 22-year old woman and said “Bang.”
 

Man charged with theft and fraud

A 34-year old Rome man was arrested Wednesday on warrants charging him with financial transaction card theft and financial transaction card fraud.

According to the warrants, Nico Minardos London of a Branham Avenue address stole a debit card and bought a pair of Nike Air Jordan tennis shoes for $214 back on February 2.

London is also accused of fleeing from sheriff’s deputies.

He is additionally charged with fleeing or attempting to elude, reckless driving, too fast for conditions, failure to maintain a lane, improper lane change, passing in a no passing zone, driving with a suspended or revoked license, driving with canceled registration, and a probation violation.

 

Man charged with drug possession

A traffic stop for a brake light that was out on Shorter Avenue Wednesday ended with the arrest of a 47-year old Rome man on drug charges.

According to Floyd County Jail records, Kennon Franklin Jackson of a West 13th Street address was found in possession of a glass pipe containing cocaine residue and a crack rock.

Jackson reportedly dropped the pipe and almost caused the sheriff’s office K-9 harm.

Jackson is charged with possession of cocaine and drug-related objects, abandonment of dangerous drugs, a brake light violation and a probation violation.
